That’s the ultimate goal of our Eat Local Indonesia initiative. Consumers deserve to get the truly healthy food especially when they pay the right price. Most of consumers understand why they have to pay the right price. Unfortunately, most of consumers can hardly determine the healthy ingredients. The key aspect of healthy ingredient is the freshness, naturally fresh with no preservatives exposures. Some preservatives may not be good for health. Most of preserved food have no information on the preservation process and methodology on their products.
Local products such as local vegetables have no preservatives exposures especially when we purchase directly from farm. Consumers – producers interaction will improve. The Organic farm will be the new place of interest. The closer the distance, producers tend to harvest and ship often at small or medium amount instead of bulk amount. This will keep the products always fresh. Normally, the preservation methodology used is by lowering the temperature such as using ice cubes, stored in chiller etc.
The high demand of local food will open new local stores, local food restaurant, local food industry, urban and farmer markets etc. They are hand in hand promoting local food. The farmers welfare is expected to be improved, and so is regional economy. However, healthy-minded consumers will be demanding on the fresh ingredients which have no residue contamination. It means, the local product should come from the organic farms.
Bottom line, the key points are local and organic. Local is to keep it fresh and nutritious while organic is to make it healthy. True organic farming is becoming most important aspect. This is the core of our Eat Local Indonesia initiative. Organic rural farming and urban farming are our main focus to start with. Ecofarming Partnership initiative is to populate the center of productions all over Indonesia to get closer to consumers, reducing the vegetables mileage. Halaman Organik Indonesia initiative is to populate organic urban farming mainly for self-consumption but not limited to sell the products to the community. Indonesia Young Ecofarmer initiative is the long term initiative to prepare Indonesia as the main organic producer in the world. Since growing organic focuses on soil healthiness, growing organic will also deliver valuable contribution to save the planet, making the environment better and healthier. Support from all parties will bring this initiative keeps moving to the right direction.
And finally, the Healthy Food Start At Home initiative is the ultimate goal to get a truly healthy food. Food and agriculture are the basic needs of life. But in the future, people will choose healthy food which was produced from healthy environment. And it’s started already today.
